Make your own decorations this Christmas with this easy-to-follow recipe for salt dough. Perfect for gifting or hanging on your tree. It's a great activity to keep kids entertained by letting them get creative with painting and decorating. We recommend making the dough and baking the decorations ahead of time, as the process takes several hours.
Ingredients
250g plain flour
125g table salt
125ml water
Items required
Two baking trays
Greaseproof paper
Cutters
Toothpick or tip of paint brush
Paint
Glitter (for the brave hearted!)
Recipe
Preheat oven to 100 degrees C and prepare two baking sheets with greaseproof paper.
Combine the flour and salt in a bowl, mixing well, then pour in water and stir until the mixture forms a dough ball.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it's approximately 1cm thick and use cutters to create your desired shapes. With a toothpick or similar tool, make a hole in the desired location for the string to be inserted.
Place on greaseproof paper and put in oven and cook for 3 hours or until solid, Leave to cool and then they are ready to decorate! Our recommendation is to use poster paint.
